Draft - Will be held, however teams will stay together if possible. Players may ask to go back into the draft, and coaches may release players to the draft. Kids may end up on same team though, due to numbers.
Season - Games May thru June (All Stars - July)
All Stars - Teams are selected based off of a number of things. Criteria ranges from ability, to attitude, and availability. Players must make All Stars a priority over other teams. Coaches need to keep a proper s=book on the season and be bale to provide stats on kids for All Stars.
Coaches - Regular Season and All Star coaches are chosen by the Board. End of season: The first place manager, or a manager that defeated another coach from Higginsville or Lexington is not guaranteed the All Star Manager job.
Concessions - All parents will take a turn in the concession stand
Coaches section - If a game is prepped for a game stay off that field. Use the batting cages, bull pens, and or the grass areas outside of the fields. Each team deserves a fresh field when possible.
COACHES: DO NOT GO ON THE INFIELD IF A FIELD IS LINED FOR A GAME.
ADDITIONALLY: IF YOU ARE THERE PRACTICING AND IN THE OUTFIELD, AND TEAMS SHOW UP FOR THEIR GAME,,,, YOUR TEAM NEEDS TO BE USHERED OFF AND OUT OF THE DUGOUTS, AGAIN, USE THE OTHER PRACTICE AREAS.
COACHES - BE CREATIVE, THERE ARE MANY WAYS TO HOLD GOOD PRACTICES WITHOUT BEING ON A FIELD.....
Run batting cages, (tell half the team to show up at 6pm, other half at 6:30pm for example)...also work on pitching in the bull pens
Practice Schedules/Times - 1.5 hour practices Monday thru Fridays (6pm & 730pm). Teams may go 2 hours on weekends. Reminder - Once the season starts, games will take the practice slots up.
PRACTICES: Coaches have a practice plan, be efficient, be timely, and if you don't know something ask for help.
The best example of a bad example for a practice is this:
(Ask yourself is this a good use of practice time?),,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
The head coach gathers everyone up and says; "OK it's batting practice time", then proceeds to pitch slowly to each kid on the team while all 12-13 kids stand around and "play defense" at their positions for however long.
Use your resources: Figure out good assistant coaches or get some extra help, then utilize 3 kids taking BP at the cage, 2 kids working on pitching (outside the fence) with 2 kids taking turns catching them, and another group can be shagging fly balls in the outfield or in another area. This is what is called "station work". And it's what all successful coaches do. Now mind you there are certainly times when all the kids need to be together to work on things.....but overall, station work will help you out, and help the kids get more out of practice.
