Higginsville Parks and Recreation awarded grant from Solid Waste District F of DNR.
The Higginsville Parks and Recreation Department received a grant last year for five new picnic tables and five new benches. These items are made out of recycled content, which diverts hundreds of pounds of waste from our landfills. The benches and tables are already in use at the park, serving patrons at the walking track, near our playgrounds, pool, and concession stands at the ball fields. The grant was made possible from the regional Solid Waste District F and the Department of Natural Resources.
This year the department was once again awarded a grant from the Solid Waste District for five ADA Hex style picnic tables which are fully accessible to wheelchairs due to their unique design. The tables also implement the required recycled content which enables the department to go after grant funding. In both years the Higginsville Park Department has been actively seeking grant funding opportunities for our parks and recreational pursuits. HPR is required to help fund these projects to the tune of a 15% match. For more information on these items visit our website www.higginsvilleparksandrec.com.

<<<<<<<<<Announcement Time>>>>>>>>
The Higginsville Parks and Recreation Department along with the Missouri Department of Natural Resources, Division of State Parks (pertaining to the Confederate Memorial State Historic Site) officially signed off on an agreement to provide an 18 hole disc golf course that will be located at the Higginsville State Park. This will be the first of its kind in Missouri. It is a joint effort between city and state entities and is certain to bring many visitors to the town and park, and provide a wonderful and healthy outdoor activity that can be enjoyed by people of all ages. The course will undergo construction this summer (weather permitting). There are several people to thank that have made this all possible; from Director Chris Fritsche at the local state park, Suzanne McKenna, (Office of General Counsel) with DNR, city attorney Doug Harris, for his assistance with the contract, along with City Administrator Jeanette Dobson. Futhermore, special thank you to the Higginsville Park Board; President Kevin Alumbaugh, members Jon DeHaven, and Kent Emison, and the entire board. Local enthusiast Karl Salyer, (who approached the state and initiated his own campaign for a course at the Confederate Memorial Site several years ago, to make this happen), as well as local player Jerry Leonard. Stay tuned for additional updates and information on our Facebook page and our website, www.higginsvilleparksandrec.com
- Dan Rumsey, Park Director
